Brown urges diversifying water options, including desalination, in State of the State address
SACRAMENTO, CA – In response to Governor Jerry Brown’s State of the State address, Poseidon Water issued the following statement in support of the Governor’s call for desalination. In his address, Governor Brown emphasizes there is no single solution to the state’s water problems and references the framework for success laid out in Proposition I (The Water Bond) and the more recent California Water Action Plan, and specifically called for more desalination in California.
The Governor’s State of the State comes on the heels of recent grand opening of the Carlsbad desalination facility, which will provide 50 million gallon of fresh, clean drinking water to San Diego county residents each day. To date, the Carlsbad facility is the largest, most technologically advanced and energy-efficient desalination plant in the nation. Poseidon is also currently awaiting a permit approval from the California Coastal Commission to begin work on a similar facility in Huntington Beach.
Poseidon Water specializes in developing and financing water infrastructure projects, primarily seawater desalination and water treatment plants in an environmentally sensitive manner. These projects are implemented through innovative public-private partnerships in which private enterprise assumes the developmental and financial risks.
